Computer Networking Masterclass
Explore how data flows across the global internet. Visualize packet routing, OSI layer encapsulation, TCP 3-way handshakes, IP subnetting, and DNS resolution in real-time animated simulations.
1. Network Architectures & Topologies
Client-Server vs Peer-to-Peer (P2P)
Client-Server: Centralized architecture where clients request services (web pages, database queries) from dedicated server nodes (e.g. AWS, GCP, Databricks).
Peer-to-Peer (P2P): Decentralized architecture where every node acts as both client and server (e.g. BitTorrent, Blockchain nodes).
Bandwidth vs Latency vs Throughput
Bandwidth: Maximum theoretical capacity of a link (e.g. 10 Gbps fiber).
Latency: Round-trip time (RTT) for a packet to travel (e.g. 15ms).
Throughput: Actual rate of data delivered successfully over a network link.
LAN vs WAN vs VPC
LAN (Local Area Network): High-speed local network inside an office or home.
WAN (Wide Area Network): Spans continents via fiber cables and satellite.
VPC (Virtual Private Cloud): Isolated logical cloud network inside GCP/Azure.
2. The 7-Layer OSI Model & Encapsulation
3. IP Addressing & Interactive Subnet Calculator
4. TCP 3-Way Handshake & Protocols
Interactive TCP 3-Way Handshake Animation
